The people from Marka are also Warka tribe that are members of the Soninke group whose civilization date to 750 AD in Ghana. Wars against the Berbers forced the Soninke to go the northern part of Mali.

In their art there is a likeness of spirt merging with form. these mask are created to bridge to the one wearing it to a spirit world. These mask are said by tribesmen to repel evil, sickness, and misfortunes. Many people here in the US use these African mask themselve to neutralize any curse that might had been cast upon them and household. The african artifacts contain bronze plates forged by African metalworkers that are believed by tribesmen to have tremendous power. The tribesmen say metalworkers are wielders of magical powes that funnel spirit forces into objects, and possess them after they are forged.
